R600m multivitamin contract: health forum wants Gems management suspended

Last year, GEMS estimated that South Africa is losing R22 billion annually to fraud, waste and abuse in the healthcare industry.

It wants the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) to initiate the suspension procedures. Gems awarded a contract to the pharmaceutical company Activo Health in December last year to supply its members with multivitamins for five months, starting in January.
