New amaXhosa king Ahlangene Vulikhaya Sigcawu, who is also South Africa’s ambassador to Malawi, wants to reach out to members of his family opposing his ascendancy to the throne to share his vision of focusing on the development of his people, rather than infighting.

On Friday, the official announcement of the nomination of Prince Vulikhaya as the new monarch was preceded by drama, as disgruntled members of the family allegedly locked the gates to the Nqadu Great Place in Willowvale, Eastern Cape, where a private ritual had been planned in which elders of the family would introduce the new king to his ancestors.
