Former ANC Women’s League president and trade unionist Gertrude Shope appears to be in trouble with the taxman after the SA Revenue Service (Sars) issued a final letter of demand against her for a R423 606 unpaid bill.

In a letter dated June 10, Sars alleges that the 95-year-old veteran politician failed to pay her tax bill, and requests that she make full payment within 10 business days.
