Virgin Active in Cresta, Johannesburg, is temporarily closing its doors after a gym member tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The international gym franchise sent a notification to its clients on Thursday to alert them to the fact that one of its members had tested positive for the virus.

The club said the member had visited the gym on March 14 between 12pm and 1pm.

As a precautionary measure, the club then decided to contact a specialist company to carry out a deep clean and disinfection of the club.

“The club will be closed for overnight disinfection as a precaution. Please seek medical advice if you experience any symptoms,” the SMS to clients read.

Last week the Virgin Active in Melrose Arch shut its doors after similar communication was sent to its clients.

The number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa stood at 150 as of Thursday afternoon, which sees an increase of 34 infections, according to Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.

Gauteng, where the department has reported 76 confirmed cases, remains the hub of the disease, followed by the Western Cape with 46 cases.

On Wednesday, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde sent out a statement to inform the public that Health MEC NomaFrench Mbambo would be going into self-isolation after making contact with the French consul to Cape Town Laurent Amar.

The consul revealed on social media that he had tested positive for the virus.

Amar had recently interacted with Mbambo on several occasions.

While Winde had been in close proximity with Mbambo during a Facebook Live press briefing on Wednesday, he explained that he would not be going into self-quarantine just yet.

He, however, did reiterate that a decision to work from home was made on Monday and he would be still be continuing with meetings via teleconference.

KwaZulu-Natal so far has 22 cases of Covid-19, while Mpumalanga has five and with Limpopo only reporting one confirmed case.

The other four provinces remain free of the virus according to the latest statistics.
