Nearly four years ago, houses belonging to traditional leaders and ordinary community members linked to chrome mining businesses were torched as tension over the proceeds from the minerals flared up in Burgersfort in Limpopo.

One woman was killed during the strife back then as activists put pressure on mining companies to ensure that the chrome mined on communal land did not only benefit a few connected individuals.
