This is according to a November 1 study by the Energy Systems Research Group at the University of Cape Town and the Climate Equity Reference Project. The research was commissioned by the Centre for Environmental Rights.
The 1 500MW plant is part of the department of mineral resources and energy’s long-term electricity generation plan, which envisages the procurement of more than 31 300MW of new generation and storage capacity between 2020 and 2030.
