Politics have not been ruled out of the recent controversy in which the qualifications of the newly appointed North West social development head of department (HOD) were questioned.

It has also emerged that Smuts Matshe, chairperson of the SA Communist Party in the North West, was among the candidates who did not make the cut for the position, which he had applied and been interviewed for.
