ANC councillors help vote in EFF speaker, despite having outright majority

The ANC’s provincial coordinator Hlomane Chauke told City Press that it was important to probe the events to establish what had prompted their councillors to defy the party’s position. Voting was conducted through a secret ballot.

“The report we got from the side of our regional structures was that there are elements within the ANC that have a majority, but in fact voted with the EFF. That is why there is a situation where the EFF speaker was confirmed and that was not the ANC," Chauke said adding:
