The ANC’s national working committee moved to replace ANCYL National Youth Task Team (NYTT) convener Nonceba Mhlauli with its party MP Xola Nqola, while coordinator Joy Maimela was replaced with Deputy Minister in the Presidency Sonto Motaung, due to persistent divisions that have plagued the organisation and prevented lower structures from uniting.
Although much work had been done by the NYTT, including fundraising and helping set the date for its long-awaited national elective conference, the structure has been beset by persistent divisions under Mhlauli and Maimela, with the two being seen as representing separate groups fighting for control of the league’s rebuilding process.
