This comes as the provincial bloc insists that it will not back those who were part of the push for a leadership change, even as its preferred candidates stand little chance of emerging under President Cyril Ramaphosa’s ticket.
While ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe has overwhelmingly been given the nod for re-election and Premier Oscar Mabuyane was nominated for the deputy presidency, the provincial bloc has done little to push for their candidacy in other provinces, despite the Eastern Cape’s position as the third-largest provincial bloc in terms of ANC membership.
