Deputy President David Mabuza’s branch general meeting collapsed last weekend after one branch member opposed his nomination for the presidency and pronounced incumbent Cyril Ramaphosa’s name.

Mabuza’s ward 45 in Barberton has been a highly contested one since last year’s local government elections, because it is home to gold mines. The ward has recently also been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
