The long-awaited Mpumalanga ANC conference will not sit next weekend as expected following the intervention of the party’s national executive committee (NEC) after violence erupted during a branch general meeting.

The NEC’s intervention four weeks ago suspended all branch general meetings to nominate candidates for the provincial conference until further notice after a meeting at Ward 32 in Jeppes Reef, Nkomazi sub-region near Malelane, was invaded by outsiders armed with pangas who were bused in from the near Schoemansdal village on April 11.
