Deputy President David Mabuza’s decision to quit his position this week has created a conundrum for President Cyril Ramaphosa, who did not want to be rushed into implementing a Cabinet reshuffle.

City Press has learnt that Mabuza, who failed to retain his position during the party’s national conference held in Nasrec, Johannesburg, last month, tendered his resignation to the president this week after much speculation about whether he would serve his full five-year term at the Union Buildings, despite not being in the ANC’s top structures. Those close to him said he was “at peace” with his decision.
