The Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic is changing all our lives and the way in which we do things – from social distancing to “cocooning”, meaning to stay within the confines of your home to minimise all nonessential contact. It’s difficult, but necessary.

There have been suggestions that, when we are up and running again, there will be serious alterations to the usual prematch protocols in football.

Firstly, social distancing will have to be observed. Imagine how difficult that’s going to be in a game that is a contact sport. Secondly, the players will not walk on to the field together in a parade-like fashion with the referees at the head as heretofore.
