Depending on who you speak to, the negotiations between the Cape Town franchise and MVM Holdings – which have dragged on way beyond the initial 45-day exclusivity talks arrangement because Western Province’s elected officials refuse to hand the Americans 51% control for their estimated R100 million cash investment – are either ongoing or finally off.

Western Province president Zelt Marais didn’t respond to text messages and a phone call requesting clarity on the union’s current stance on the talks, but a source familiar with the deliberations said the proposed deal was “off, and that consortium is now talking to the Sharks”.
