The crème de la crème from the recently completed 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season will have the spotlight shone on them as the PSL, together with its sponsors, host the end-of-season awards on Tuesday night.

Crowd favourites of the calibre are Mamelodi Sundowns’s Percy Tau, who has dazzled footballing fans all season, as well as lesser known starlets in the likes of Maritzburg United’s Siphesihle Ndlovu, are some of the players in the running for the PSL’s prestigious footballer of the season award.

In the technical department, masterminds of the game such as Fadlu Davids who stirred underdogs Maritzbutrg United to a first-ever fourth place finish, Championship winning coach Pitso Mosimane, and runner-up Orlando Pirates’ Milutin Sredojevic are the nominees for the coach of the season award.

While the season was dominated by a lot of inconsistencies and underperformance, as exemplified by the fact that the league’s top goal scorers (Percy Tau and Rodney Ramagalela) only managed a measly 11 goals apiece, the closely contested nature of the league kept a lot of footballing fans captivated.

It is no surprise then that the most consistent team, Mamelodi Sundowns, were the eventual winner and their prized asset, Percy Tau, is tipped to walk away with several individual awards.

Following a remarkable season which saw the pint-sized Tau score 13 goals in all competition and register 16 assists, it is no surprise that Tau is tipped to collect numerous awards that include the coveted footballer of the season award.

Other standout performers nominated for awards came courtesy of underdogs Maritzburg United.

The Team of Choice were a surprise package this season that finished incredibly in fourth place on the log, their best ever finish in the PSL thanks to the technical astuteness of coach Davids and standout performer Ndlovu.

The pair where nominated for the coach of the season award and footballer of the season award respectively.

Consumers are paying exorbitant rates for power because of extra fee charges that are added when buying prepaid electricity. This is on top of an already high electricity tariff rate. Some of these fees are not even regulated. Should government regulate electricity fees?
