The Maserati Kyalami is one of just a few cars named after a South African racing circuit. Justus Visagie takes a look at these two brands that almost faded into obscurity.

Motor racing is a noisy affair, which is why race tracks are usually built far away from people and their homes. But, as cities develop, the suburbs get closer to previously isolated racing circuits – which, in turn, leads to noise complaints from new neighbours.
