Bonang Matheba has always aimed to incorporate her interests into her brand alignments and businesses – from her successful reality show Being Bonang, to her Cell C app. This time around she’s added sparkles to her list of accomplishments ... literally.

In March the TV personality and businesswoman launched her luxury range of Méthode Cap Classique called House of BNG, making her the first black woman to become a member of the Cap Classique Producers’ Association.

Sold for R399.99 a bottle at Woolworths, House of BNG Brut and Brut Rosé, made by Villiera Wines in Stellenbosch, are elegant and refreshing.

I’m someone who has yet to develop a love for local bubbles. I prefer Prosecco over Champagne, unlike other sparkling wines. But what I like most about House of BNG is that it has a softer and sweeter taste for both the brut and brut rosé, but isn’t as sweet as a demi-sec. Its dry and delicate fruity flavour is similar to a Prosecco.

But there is something House of BNG can improve on – its packaging. The design is beautiful, with plenty of gold and Bonang’s signature love of pink, but for what it sells at the wrapping should have been done more seamlessly – almost as if the bottlehad been dipped in gold. Checking the bottles, the wrapping has various folds – so much so that you almost feel tempted to peel it off.

This should be a luxury good inside and out and it would be the cherry on top if the packing was given the same care for detail as the yummy bubbly inside. – Rhodé Marshall
