Full disclosure: if they’re not holding a peach or a lump of gold in the promo shots, then they’re not my kind of Housewives. But I will say that I am looking forward to the first few episodes of the Real Housewives of Durban, which starts later this month on 1Magic.

South Africans have been treated to two seasons of crazy Christall and the catchphrase queen, Evodia (Season 1), in the Real Housewives of Johannesburg.

So, there seems to be an expectation that the Durban dolls will be all about drama too since that’s the main theme of the franchise globally.

But looking at the cast list, it seems Nonkanyiso Conco may have to carry the drama load. She is an entrepreneur but people seem to forget this when they find out she has a baby with former president Jacob Zuma.

Speaking of men who are attached to the women on this show, the late Sifiso Ncwane’s widow, Ayanda is also a Durban housewife. I have no doubt she has a thriving life of her own but she seems to always be tied to the success of her husband. Will she be able to carve out her own lane?

The other castmates include entrepreneurs (yes, they’re all booked and busy), Sorisha Naidoo, Kgomotso Ndungane, Nonku Williams and Anne-Toni Lodick Mthembu. I’ll commit to two episodes of the Durban season. That will determine whether the beaded isagila-wielding women join the gold and peach-holders as my kind of housewives too.

Real Housewives of Durban premieres on 1Magic at 7pm on January 29
