“I did what I did, not for myself, but for the people of South Africa,” wrote Andrew Mlangeni in an autograph for me on his book The Backroom Boy, his biography written by Mandla Mathebula.

The sign-off was a shortened version of the statement Mlangeni gave during the Rivonia Trial, shortly before he and others were convicted and sentenced to life in prison for treason.
