In the 1980s, while working as a journalist at The Herald in Harare, Zimbabwe, I had the honour of interviewing the Reverend Beyers Naudé, the late anti-apartheid cleric and theologian.

The editor took out a whole page to publish the interview. A couple of days later, I was called to meet the then Zimbabwean minister of information, Nathan Shamuyarira.
