There is nothing better than getting home after a long day, turning on your kettle and having a nice warm cup of coffee before settling into your bed. Unfortunately, for so many, this luxury is one not afforded. As a vast number of people settle into their daily routines, others are faced with homelessness, a problem growing at an exponential rate.
Without an accurate statistic for the number of homeless people in South Africa, an article by the Daily Maverick stated that, in a 2020 study, Cape Town alone had more than 14 000 homeless people. While a 2008 study done by the Human Sciences Research Council concluded that there were between 100 000 and 200 000 homeless people in South Africa, the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic mean that number has seen a rapid spike.
