4 empowering Instagram accounts by black women

Everyone is trying their best to keep their heads above the water, some through baking, reading books, writing or even consuming social-media content.

With so much bad news, it can be hard to remain connected while also taking care of your mental health. If being on apps like Instagram have been pulling you down, you may have to rethink the accounts you follow.

To help you create a new safe space on your feed, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite Instagram accounts by black women (because representation matters) which encourage mental wellbeing, self-love and positivity during a time when we need it most.

  1. Mosaiceye

Chetna Mehta’s mission is to cultivate the creative self-actualisation and empowered interconnection of women. This is done through a thought-provoking mix of media, art, education and self-reflection posts.

2. Nedra Glover Tawwab (nedratawwab)

Writer and licensed therapist Nedra Glover Tawwab spreads words of wisdom and wellness through her posts. She’s also the creator of #cyclebreakers in which she builds community among people who are the first to break a pattern or create a new existence. Her posts carry a message of abundance and, most importantly, encourage us to turn inward to do the work required for healing, and to progress emotionally and mentally.

Student, blogger and self-care activist Nwabisa Mazana spreads love and positive affirmations through her posts. The Hey Black Viola account is a “place for love, honesty, healing, falling apart and picking yourself up again”. If you’re looking for words that lean towards self-assurance and softness, look no further than this account.
