In his post, the 19-year-old pupil from Eden Park Secondary School shared explained why he chose to take his mom as his date for his matric dance.

“The woman that Gave birth to me, I’m so grateful for life. A shoot with my mom, she’s been a single mother making sure her son gets whatever he desires [sic]”

“I Took her to prom cause she had me at a young age & couldn't attend her's [sic],” he captioned a snap of him and his mom.

In an interview with Drum, Mduduzi shared that his mom told him when he was in grade 9 that she never attended her matric dance, because she had him at a young age.

As a result, his mother’s parents didn’t allow her to attend her own matric dance.

“My matric dance date came closer and I didn’t have a partner so I just thought it would be a nice gesture to take my mother to my matric dance as a sign of my appreciation of her.”

Following his post, support for him poured in and he trended on Twitter.

“People’s reactions really amazed me because people were happy with what I did. If I’m not mistaken my posts trended in like 10 hours it was all over social media, but I was not doing this for people’s reactions but for my mother.”
