Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, Kim Kardashian West has once again used her influence for the benefit of others.
On Wednesday it was reported by TMZ that the reality TV star begged YouTube to remove all the “Momo challenges” from kids’ videos.
If you haven't heard about it, the videos contain a creepy figure popping up, instructing kids to kill themselves, and intimidating them to keep the video secret from parents.
According to CBS News the challenge first went viral in the U.K. on WhatsApp. Then the game, at a later stage, gained international notoriety and was initially thought to be a hoax, as it became a well-known meme. However, in August 2018, law enforcement looked into the influence of the challenge on the death of a 12-year-old in Argentina, which concerned parents around the world.
Entertainment Tonight also reported that the reality TV star-turned-business woman posted a screengrab from a user on Facebook warning parents about something called “Momo challenge”.
“Parents please be aware and very cautious of what your child watches on YouTube and KIDS YOUTUBE,” the screenshot states. “There is a thing called ‘Momo’ that’s instructing kids to kill themselves, turn on stoves while everyone is [sleeping] and even threatening to tell their parents.
“It doesn’t come on instantly so it’s almost as if it waits for you to leave the room then it comes [on mid show],” she continued. “It’s been on Peppa Pig, LOL DOLL, those surprise eggs, and a few others.”
YouTube has replied to the mother-of-three about her concerns and posted their reply on their Instagram story and said “@kimkardashian thank you. We take these reports really seriously. We’re on it — swipe up for more info.”
But YouTube also tweeted and distanced itself from the “Momo challenge” and said they have seen no recent evidence of videos promoting the “Momo challenge” on their platform and such videos that encourage harmful and violent challenges are against their policies.
