'My baby daddy is denying his child – what can I do?'

Are men allowed to deny fathering a child when they have been supporting a child for a long period? I was involved with the father of my child for 12 years and we recently broke up. I took him to the Maintenance Court for refusing to assist me with paying for our child’s school fees. He is denying that our child is his, even though they look alike.

The law allows any male who suspects that he may not have fathered a child to approach the National Health Laboratory Service and request DNA tests. A paternity test can be ordered by a magistrate or maintenance officer to prove they are the father or not.
