The popular “Diamond and Dorings Easter Festival, one of Mzansi’s flagship events is promising yet another memorable Easter Weekend ever.
Every year throngs of cultural and entertainment tourists flock to Kimberley, the capital of the Northern Cape Province, attracted by the massive annual fiesta. The Diamonds and Dorings has been staged with great success over the past fourteen years and the 15th edition of this best-enjoyed cultural tourism event will be much bigger, on a much higher and mesmerising level. The event kicks off on April 4 and will be characterized by even more attractive offerings with impressive performances, artistic grandeur and best entertainment value ever experienced.
Funded by Sol Plaatje Municipality, the growth of the event has seen it being adopted and now forming part of the National Department of Arts and Culture’s ‘Mzansi Golden Economy’ national flagship events.
“The vision of the Department of Arts and Culture goes beyond social cohesion, we believe that arts, culture and heritage play a pivotal role in the economic self determination and skills development of people hence the department’s continuous support of this event” said Northern Cape’s MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr. Lebogang Motlaping.
The events will roll out with a marathon on Saturday, April 4th from Convention Centre at 6am, featuring Local Fitness and Runners Clubs, at least 1000 people are expected. This will be followed by a Comedy Gala Night on the same day and same venue, led by famous David Kau & Friends and Wayne Mackay.
Sunday the 5th all roads will be to Langleg Resort for a daylong entertainment by a superb line-up of top-notch South African acts of International stature including, Mango Groove, Zonke, Thandiswa Mazwai, Kelly Khumalo, The Soil, Muzart, Ringo, Bhudaza, Dalez, Khuli Chana, Rythmic Vocalists, Tribal Culture, SMS, DukeSoul, Lacoste and many more.
“For this event we always use service providers from the Sol Plaatje Municipality and surrounding areas within the Province” said Somandla Sibisi one of the event’s organisers . Local Taxis are also invited to ferry revellers to and from townships to where events will be held” this gives revellers a chance to enjoy themselves without worrying about driving home tired and also avoid the bumber to bumber traffic leading to the venue” he concluded.
Big economy boost is injected during the Diamonds and Dorings events as Small to big businesses, hotels, guest houses, garages, etc, gain big profits as visitors come from afar and in big numbers to enjoy themselves that long weekend.
Diamonds and Dorings events never fail to sell out, so patrons are advised to book their tickets and make early accommodation arrangements to avoid disappointments. The event starts from 12 noon until late, people are advised to come early to secure their picnic spots. Food and beverages will be sold at the venue but people may bring their camp chairs and picnic baskets. Bottles and weapons will not be allowed into the venue
