Check what other people in your job and with your experience are earning. It’s not considered polite to ask other people in your organisation what their salaries are, so do some research online by checking out relevant job ads, doing the salary surveys at www.careers24.com or www.mywage.co.za, or searching for industry-specific local salary surveys. If you are uncertain about the results, you could also call and ask a recruitment company. Present your findings confidently and clearly, but be open to hearing why your company or specific position doesn’t pay the same wage.
