"The other woman"

I’m 23 and my boyfriend is 25. We’ve been dating for six years and have a two-year-old son. My boyfriend confessed recently that he has been cheating on me with a woman of 35. She now tells us that she is pregnant but wants nothing from my boyfriend. He says that it was a mistake and he still wants to be with me and our child. How can I accept that he cheated and, even worse, is expecting a baby with another woman? He has proposed to me, butI can’t say yes because I don’t know what lies ahead with this woman. How can I get over his cheating and move on with him? I am still very hurt.

Angry and confused, Kimberley

Marriage needs a very strong foundation, and trust and respect play an important role. Deal with the baby issue first and see what happens after it’s born. You can’t enter a marriage when he’s been cheating, and think it will fix everything. Whatever you decide, you need to be sure of whether you still want the relationship or not, and if you’ll accept his child once it’s born. Take your time and think about this before you agree to anything.
