The 2015 SPAR Woman’s Challenge is carrying their #SteppingFor message home by showing their support to a record eight race charity and community initiatives that stand to benefit from the race proceeds.
Jerome Jacobs, Marketing Director at SPAR North Rand says that this year’s theme is line with SPAR’s ethos of community involvement and uplift through sport. “We are excited to be part of something that encourages community unity on this level while still celebrating Pretoria’s women as the race has always done,” says Jerome. ‘Stepping For’ is a theme which calls upon all the friends and family members of the SPAR Women’s Challenge to put their own needs aside, and to step into the void for something or someone else.
This carries the message behind the SPAR Women’s Challenge further than ever and in fact that is exactly what this year’s race is – a challenge to all the entrants to dedicate every step they take in the race to someone who cannot or for a worthy cause. This could not be closer to SPAR’s heart because over and above organising one of the most popular and enjoyed sporting events of the year, the race is ultimately held in support of the race beneficiaries.
The Pretoria leg of the SPAR Women’s Challenge 2015 will provide much needed financial support to Irene Homes, The Zoleka Mandela Foundation, the Helpnet Fund, Cupcakes 4 Kids With Cancer, The Chrysalis Foundation, Stand With Stan, the Jacaranda Good Morning Angels and the Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation.
“I don’t think it is an accident that this year we have the longest of race beneficiaries ever,” says Jerome. “This year of all years we are asking people to step for a cause and just by entering the race, every participant is contributing towards the great work being done by eight organisations.”
If you are running or walking for someone who cannot do it for themselves or in support of one of SPAR’s race beneficiaries, share your story on SPAR’s Facebook page or Twitter feed and make your cause known.
