Johannesburg - The fourth season of Presenter Search on 3 was undeniably one of the best and most surprising as six contestants were welcomed onto the SABC 3 family.
One of those contestants was the well-loved Dr Fezile Mkhize. The charming medical doctor who was initially convinced to audition for the show by his girlfriend was ultimately chosen to be part of the Top Billing family.
Drum caught up with the 27-year-old doctor to ask him 13 questions, so you can get to know him better.
1. Tell us about yourself?
I’m a 27-year-old average guy. I am a practicing medical doctor who loves to be active and engage with people. I generally am very easy going and can come off as an oddball.
2. How would you describe your presenting style?
Ever growing! I came in trying to embody so many of the presenters I believe are brilliant at what they do but as this journey unfolded, I’ve been helped to use my own voice. My presenting style then seems to be a mix of goofball next door with a twist of David Attenborough, all smothered in a secret sauce.
3. How do you feel about being part of Top Billing?
I still have to formulate the correct words to describe all the feelings I have but truly blessed is one that seems to come close to encompassing everything... and extremely excited.
4. What has been the highlight of your time on Presenter Search on 3?
The entire experience has been amazing! However, if I had to choose one thing it would be the ability to meet and get to bounce ideas off and share goals with all my fellow contestants along the way. They are all poised to be break out entertainers and to able to make those connections has been invaluable.
5. Were you a fan of the show before?
Of course! I grew up in awe of all the places and adventures that were shown on the show and could never have imagined that I would be a part of that family one day.
6. Was presenting something you wanted to do?
I had thought that possibly one day I could try my hand at it, but I never thought it would be so soon and that I would connect with it as I have.
7. Your girlfriend is the one who encouraged you to audition. When you broke the news to her, what was her reaction?
A lot of ecstatic laughter and she was quick to remind me who really got me there. She’s always had unwavering confidence in this path I’ve taken and through it all has been a pillar of encouragement, so she deserves congratulations just as much as I do.
8. What are you going to buy your girlfriend when you get your first cheque?
Hahaha! She knows I want to give her the world so basically any and everything.
9. How do you stay true to yourself?
I always take each challenge or role in my life with the idea of doing the best I can and helping everyone I can to come along with me.
10. You are a medical doctor, what do you love about your profession?
I love the humanity of it. I love having an understanding about my own body and how I can improve or heal it. There is so much information in the world but I always thought that because it starts with yourself- your body and how it functions and that would be how you engage with the world that a deep understanding of that body will allow you to best position yourself and others to engage with the world.
11. How are you going to juggle the two?
I will still be practicing and keeping my skills and mind sharp but to juggle the two would mean hard work and proper planning. Both professions are things I have always believed in so I’m more than ready for the challenge.
12. How has the change been for you?
It has meant entering a world I am not too familiar with, but I have entered it with the same zeal and passion as everything I try my hand at. The Top Billing family has been phenomenal and have made the transition near seamless so I’m hoping for nothing but growth.
13. What are your hopes for the future?
I hope I will take the show to new heights, to meet all the inspirational people that the show gives opportunity to meet and to assist were I can in getting as many amazing people on the show as well as helping them live their dreams. You only truly make it when you make it together.
