Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Ricky Tyler.

 1. He loves chess.

“I'm good at playing chess and I’ve never lost a game at the house,” he says.

2. He walked the PLTZS New York City Fashion Week runway.

In 2013, Ricky walked the ramp at PLTZS New York City Fashion Week for three designers. “I can’t even remember who the designers are, but it was an incredible experience.”

3. He is also an actor.

Ricky started out as a theatre actor.

“Some of my favourite monologues to do were by Al Pacino Any given Sunday, Samuel L Jackson Coach Carter and Harold & Kumar. I could probably still do the Harold right now. Therefore, a lot of my music videos are very performance-driven. I try to adopt a different persona for each vid to best complement the feeling of each song.”

4. He is quite active.

Ricky is a fan of longboarding and BMX. “I’m also a big fan of UFC.”

5. He’s a reader.

The musician loves reading books and currently reading The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

“My favourite books are The Alchemist and The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. Especially The Monk because that book is essentially about this lawyer who quits his job, goes through this self-discovery and finds fulfilment and peace in a world full of suffering. That book resonated with me because I had that same light bulb moment in my life.”
