The state has refused to prosecute local musician Sjava on charges of alleged rape due to lack of evidence.
This after his former girlfriend Lady Zamar, real name Yamikani Janet Banda, laid the charges against Sjava, real name Jabulani Hadebe, in November 2019.
She alleged that the rapper had sexually violated her in his hotel room in Thohoyandou following their performance at the Royal Heritage Festival in Limpopo in September 2017.
Both musicians have since publicly spoken out about the case, with Sjava denying all allegations made against him and Lady Zamar remaining adamant that the rape did indeed take place in his hotel room.
She said she did not consent to having sexual intercourse with Sjava.
Limpopo regional spokesperson for the NPA Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi confirmed that the state has dismissed the rape case against Sjava.
“The state declined to prosecute this case because they believe the facts or evidence in the case do not support a successful prosecution,” she tells DRUM.
In a video he posted on his Instagram, Sjava told fans his side of the story. He shared details of how they met and how their relationship developed, but he denied violating her.
Lady Zamar also shared her side of the story with her followers in a two-part video that she has since deleted from her Instagram account. She described the alleged incident in detail.
