It’s been two weeks since American singer and TV reality star Tamar Braxton was hospitalised following an alleged suicide attempt.

Now her boyfriend, David Adefeso, is offering an update on her recovery.

Speaking to the The Blast, David said the 43-year-old singer is currently receiving the “best available medical attention” to strengthen her mental health. The mother of one was rushed to hospital after David found her unresponsive at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Los Angeles, USA.

"On behalf of Tamar Braxton, I want to thank her fans and the public for the ongoing thoughts and prayers," David said in a statement.

"Tamar is a beautifully talented woman, a devoted mother, a loving girlfriend, a dear sister and a special friend to countless people.

"This is an extremely difficult time for Tamar and her family as she navigates professional and personal struggles including her battle with depression," he said.

"Tamar is currently receiving the best available medical attention to address those struggles and strengthen her mental health, and her family and I will remain by her side throughout her treatment."

The reality star's boyfriend pointed out that mental health issues are very common, and hopes that Tamar's fans, and the public, will continue to support her through her ongoing recovery.

"Mental health is a common issue affecting one in five Americans.

“Please continue to send prayers and hope as Tamar continues the path to recovery and ultimate happiness. We ask to please respect Tamar's privacy, and her family's privacy, during this important time of healing,” he said.

Last week The Blast reported that the star was “awake and alert”.

A source close to the situation told the publication, "Tamar is now awake and alert, talking to doctors about her situation and the days leading up to the hospitalisation.”

"Tamar has been transferred to another facility for further evaluation and treatment. Out of respect for Tamar's privacy and that of her family, no additional information is available at this time. The outpouring of support that Tamar has received is a testament to the light that she brings to people,” Tamar’s spokesperson said.

The close source also revealed that David is Tamar's "rock" and has been by her side every step of the way for the past two years, even when "she felt alone”.

Tamar and David, a businessman who works in finance, made their relationship public in April last year.

"We just have a regular, amazing relationship," Braxton told People at the time, adding that her family "loves him”.

"He's really kind of hard to not love because he's a great guy, comes from a great family, has great morals and he loves my son to pieces," said the star, who shares seven-year-old child Logan with ex-husband Vince Herbert.

"We get along great and he's great," she added.
