There's been a lot of speculation. Was Hungani Ndlovu fired? Did he quit on his own? Is he going overseas? has finally decided to set the record straight.

Even though the actor and the station had been mum on why he left, there have been several reports about his departure.

They include him allegedly being fired for bad behavior, his character Romeo being killed off and him leaving because he has been offered a role in the American sitcom Black-ish.

The channel says the actor has requested to go on leave and slammed speculation that he was fired.

This comes after they were concerned about "the circulation of misleading media reports about the reason for Hungani’s temporary exit from the popular drama series Scandal!"

The channel together with Ochre Media, recently released a statement setting the record straight.

“The channel, together with Ochre Media, refute the claims made that Hungani was fired from the show for bad behaviour, nor has his character, Romeo been killed off,” says the statement.

“The factual reason for his temporary absence is that the actor requested to go on leave.

“We, as the producers of Scandal!, have the highest regard for Hungani’s professionalism and humility as an artist," producers Sanele Zulu, Grace Mahlaba, and Ilse van Hemert said.

Hungani has always behaved with the utmost respect towards his employers and colleagues, they say. 

“The character of Romeo is adored by viewers and the Scandal! team alike, and we would love to create stories with him for as long as possible.

“The talented actor, mentor, and NPO activist has contributed immensely to Scandal! over the years, and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.”
