Award-winning actress Sindi Dlathu, best known as her Muvhango character Thandaza Buthelezi, has cautioned the public that there are people using her name to create fake social-media accounts.
“Hi everyone. I've been informed of a fake Twitter account misleading people into believing they are communicating with me. Please note that I only have one Twitter account and @S__Dlathu (note the double underscore) is an imposter. @TwitterSupport [sic].”
Even though Sindi is not the first celebrity to fall victim to cyber-identity theft, it’s not the first time her name was used for the malicious benefits of perpetrators.
Just late last year, a certain beauty brand falsely claim that Sindi was endorsing it. The media-shy actress set the record straight about the matter as soon as it was brought to her attention.
"I have not been involved in the development of the skincare ranges, nor have I endorsed any of the products sold by Nulante Anti-Aging," she said matter-of-factly.
However, she could not find out who was behind the campaign but took the time to warn her fans to be cautious of falling for bogus people who use her name to promote products.
