During this lockdown, many of us have been spending time in the kitchen for the first time in a long while.
Popular deejay Mo Flava is not an exception. In fact, he’s been cooking so much that he’s reminded himself of how good he is at it. We caught up with the radio host to find out what a typical lockdown day looks like.
When do you get up? I wake up at 3.45am every morning.
First thing you do after waking up: Take a shower, then make a cup of coffee before preparing for my show at 5am. I’ve been broadcasting from home, so I don’t have to travel to work in the morning.
What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and supper: Coffee and bread with peanut butter for breakfast. Lunch is anything from cheese, ham and tomato sandwiches to chicken salad. Supper can be beef stew and rice or grilled chicken with a salad. I’ve also done a lot more cooking and I’ve reminded myself of how good I am.
Eating more or still controlling your diet: I must confess, in the first four weeks I ate a lot. I was constantly walking to the fridge. Chocolates, burgers and chips, braais, anything! I have since started to eat healthier to avoid gaining any more weight. I’ve mixed that up with regular exercise and drinking lots of water.
Between meals: I’ve lined up my day with chores around my house, watching series and documentaries, doing online content and reading up on things I find interesting. I’ve been doing my work- and business-related meetings through online apps like Zoom and Teams. Now and then I’ll play Fifa PlayStation online against friends.
Watchlist: Money Heist, Designated Survivor, Queen Sono, Black Monday.
Bedtime: Since lockdown, my sleeping patterns have changed a bit. I generally go to bed later. Between 10pm and 11pm.
“I’ve gone through a number of emotional stages. From optimism and frustration and feeling a bit anxious. But having family around helps. It’s allowed me to spend time with family on weekends since I can’t go gigging. We play games and exercise together.”
