Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi is heading to the Miss Universe pageant today. Yesterday she invited people to O.R Tambo International Airport to bid her farewell with their flags and country symbols.
Even though some were wishing her all the best, this announcement raised eyebrows to some who felt that it was ‘insensitive’ of her to have her farewell opposite a post office.
This is because UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana was raped and killed by a post office employee a few months ago.
“Yhu mntase . Post offices are still triggers for us nje Ngqangqa, otherwise uhambe kakuhle Nomhomho”
Some fans defended her against Twitter users who attacked her.
“Some of you are being unreasonable. The Post Office didn't kill Uyinene, an evil man did. Now Miss SA can't mention a post office because yall think it's insensitive. I haven't seen any outrage about all the other places women get killed. Vots*k mahn”
“People are angry at Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi because her welcoming will be at OR Tambo Airport, opposite the Post office. Post Office supposedly being the issue. You more sensitive than Drake man.”
“You people are SO VILE!?? It's disheartening - attacking Miss SA for doing her farewell opposite a post office is not it. People out here saying it's triggering - well so are homes, clubs, SCHOOLS... The entire SA should be triggering because rape & murder happens everywhere.”
The Miss SA Twitter page didn’t respond to the outcry but instead encouraged everyone to watch the reigning queen on a world stage.
