Mlindo cancels trip and performance in Zimbabwe: ‘I fear for my life’


Cape Town - Musician Lindokuhle Mgedezi, best known by his stage name Mlindo The Vocalist has decided against going to Zimbabwe for his performance this weekend.

In light of the current xenophobic attacks in South Africa against foreign nationals, the muso made it clear in a social media post that he fears for his life in another African country.

"I’m supposed to travel to Zimbabwe ???? this weekend, but I fear for My life since I’m South African. My country is doing so much harm to our brothers and sisters I have no choice but to wonder what lies in another African country as an AFRICAN!!!???," he tweeted.

He took that tweet to his Instagram page to confirm that he won’t be setting foot in the country, fearing the worst that might happen to him.

"So I’m not going," he confirmed.

A South African retailer in Lagos was looted by Nigerians in what is believed to be retaliation due to what is going on in South Africa.

Rapper, Nadia Nakai recently condemned the xenophobic attacks currently happening in popular CBDs around the country, saying when she visits other African countries, she doesn’t feel unsafe or unwelcome.

Many other locals, officials and celebrities have condemned the violence and looting of foreign-owned shops during this time.

Nomuzi Mabena is also currently in Nigeria. She called out those who are perpetrators of these xenophobic attacks pointing out the love she receives when travelling to other African countries.

"We also need to share more love and tolerance with our fellow Africans. Xenophobia is deeply rooted in darkness & fear and it has absolutely no place in our society. Every time I travel, I'm received with nothing but genuine love and support across this continent," she posted.
