Nambitha Ben-Mazwi on her new role on The Queen: 'I accessed parts of me that I never knew existed'


Cape Town - Former Scandal! actress Nambitha Ben-Mazwi better known as ‘Lady Nam’ is the latest actress to join Mzansi Magic’s telenovela The Queen.

Nambitha has also featured in international series’ such as the award-winning US hit show, Black Mirror.

Her most recent role was as the villain Shado on's Scandal!. 

On The Queen however, she will be portraying the New York-born African American, Shaqueesha.

Nambitha recently took to social media to share the exciting news. Her first appearance will on Monday, 6 January 2020.

“Oh maaan am I excited for you to meet this one! My best work yet ???? Bringing International flare to @the_queen_mzansi on your screens Monday, 6 Jan,(Sic), she wrote.


Speaking to Move! Nambitha shares that this was her best experience by far and it will be her best work yet.

“Maintaining an American dialect, while also tapping into and becoming a mentally unstable character with a deep, traumatic and troubling past has been so fulfilling to play.”

“Something in me shifted. I was set to leave a mark through this role and give it my absolute all, and the audience will see a shift in me through my craft.”

“I accessed parts of me that I never knew existed, I surprised myself. I’ve been yearning for more challenges in stories, and this role was the well packaged challenge I seeked.”

“I always wait for opportunities to showcase more of my depth and range, and I know this storyline will unlock a new breakthrough in my career. It’s only just the beginning.”

Lady Nam tells Move! that she is excited for the impact the story will have on viewers.

“This storyline is such a sensitive and important one to tell. As much as there is so much humor and entertainment in her, there is also healing in Shaqueesha.”

Nambitha says she plans on bagging more international roles in the year 2020, as she has already established her businesses and did exceptionally well in 2019.
