In a since-deleted Facebook post, film director Twiggy Matiwana pleaded with the public to donate towards the burial of the late actor.

“The Ngema family has humbly reached out to the public to assist with the burial of their son Sipho Ngema. Willing individuals to please contact daughter Mbali [sic],” she wrote before including contact details and an account number.

But taking to  Twitter, Sipho Ngema’s daughter, Lethu Ngema, refuted the claims and said people were taking advantage of her father’s passing.

“I would like to correct false information that has been spread in my late father's name. It hurts badly to see people take advantage of this situation. There are no donations being requested by the Ngema family. We ask that you respect us during this tough time. #ripsiphongema,” she tweeted on Sunday.

Since Sipho’s passing, tributes have been pouring in on social media under the hashtag #RIPSiphoNgema. Details of his funeral service are yet to be released.
