Cape Town - This month marks 13 years since the horrible car accident that took local R&B and Kwaito star, Lebo Mathosa’s life in 2006.

South Africans have mourned her sudden death ever since, and every year, we remember the legend who was ahead of her time.

Media personality Somizi says he’ll never forget Lebo. In fact, lyrics in two of her songs are words he’s lived by over the years.

Sharing the moment with his followers on Instagram, the Idols SA judge wrote:

"On this day 13 years ago, I woke up to the news that my best friend was no more. The one and only Lebo Mathosa. Here are the 2 quotes from her lyrics that I've always lived by. YES, U CAN JUDGE ME SECOND ON YOUR LIST COZ I DON'T GIVE A DAMN BEING FIRST ON YOUR LIST. I Hold the secret of my beginnings."

Considering the fact that his daughter, Bahumi, will be playing the role of a young Lebo Mathosa in the upcoming biopic by BET Africa, this makes the moment bittersweet.

In commemoration of Lebo’s life on this day, a lot of South African celebrities took to social media to share sweet messages and memories of their interactions with the fallen star.

Fikile Mbalula:

"On this day 13 years ago we wakeup to the news that lebo mathosa was no more she died in a car crash our hearts sank in disbelief #RIPLeboMathosa ,I will always cherish the good memories we shared together with boomshaka .Long live! (sic)"

Kuli Roberts:


Remembering Lebo Mathosa is honestly something I avoid because it's just soo heartbreaking when the good ones go. Thami Dish was very close to both of us at the time and I just held him for hours after hearing about her fatal accident. Can't wait BET!(sic)"
