Cape Town - Umhlobo Wenene presenter Lulu Haarmans has been booted out of the station, the SABC has confirmed.

"The SABC can confirm that it has terminated the contract of Ms Lulu Haarmans, who presented the mid-morning show, Khanya Gqiyazana," SABC spokesperson Vuyo Mthembu told Move!.

The news of her firing came as a shock to the station’s listeners. Some of her listeners on Facebook allege that she was shown the door because she failed to pitch as MC for an event the station.

However, Mthembu refrains from divulging the reasons behind the abrupt axing.

"The SABC is not in a position to go into the details as this was a matter between the SABC and Ms Haarmans. The station will make an announcement in due course as to who will present the mid-morning show," Mthembu said.

Sibongile James is currently holding the fort until the SABC appoints a replacement.

"Khanyagqiyazana will never be the same without you Ntswentswe. I will forever [hearts] you @luluhaarmans," a listener posted on social media.

"It's the first time I'm reading in Isolezwe Lesi Xhosa's TL  Umhlobo Wenene fired one of its DJs Lulu Haarmans. I thought it was only Ukhozi and Metro fm that kicked out misbehaving people," another said.

"Undenzele nje usuku olubi  ngo Lulu yhoo umsasazi ophume izandla nje ngaye oyenza mnandi I radio ndizakumkhangela apho asasaza khona ndimkile and liyeza nelakho ixasha siqhawulwe esakho so sad cime nalo radio uyakumanyelwa nguwe nesosivumelwano sakho  @phumzilemnci @luluhaarmans," @Vuyiswa42 posted.
