She had it all – a mom of two, a hugely successful career in communications and a beautiful home in Craighall Park.

She lived a healthy life, eating well and exercising regularly, so nothing prepared Vanessa Perumal for the day she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that would deprive her of her voice.

Things took a turn when the 54-year-old business owner contracted a fever in March. It was at the beginning of lockdown and she started feeling like she had the flu. Her symptoms were similar to swine flu and bronchitis.
