Baby Cele shows us her baby

SHE gazes serenely down at the pink bundle in her arms. Every so often she plants a kiss on the tiny forehead and is rewarded with a smile that would melt even the hardest of hearts.

Baby Cele can’t get enough of her new child. The actress has been through a lot for this baby and she knows just how precious little Thando is. At first she struggled to conceive then she had a tough pregnancy. And when Thando was born on 29 March she made a dramatic entrance by being rushed to the intensive care unit hours after arriving.

The newborn had water in her lungs and only after a week did doctors declare her out of danger.

Nearly three months old, Thando is the picture of good health with plump round cheeks, a rosebud mouth and a mop of dark curls – and now here she is, being shown to the world for the first time by her proud parents. Apart from nodding off every now and then she seems to be as much of a natural in front of the camera as her mother.

Baby (39) and her husband of just more than a year, Mandla Mabuza (43), can’t stop beaming. The last time we spoke to them they looked as if they’d won the lottery (At last a baby for us, 17 September 2009) and today it seems as if they’ve won the ultimate jackpot.

“We were almost four months along then and we couldn’t believe we were going to be parents again,” Baby says. “Our friends teased us about becoming a mother and father again. Now we tease Thando and ask her what she was doing being born to isalukazi nekhehla (an old woman and an old man).”

“Ja,” Mandla chips in, laughing. “We tell her she’s going to grow up on pension money!”
