Contraband cigarettes with a street value of about R200,000 have been seized in northern Limpopo, police said on Thursday.

Lt-Col Malesela Ledwaba said occupants of a Toyota double-cab bakkie ignored police orders to pull over on the road between Tshivaloni and Tshipise on Wednesday.

A chase ensued and the vehicle was later found abandoned, still idling.

Cartons of the contraband cigarettes were in the vehicle. The occupants were still at large.
