Farm murders should be declared a priority in view of a rise in the crime this year, the Freedom Front Plus said on Wednesday.
"The murder of yet another farmer [at Buffelshoek] is unacceptable and the FFPlus is worried about the increase in farm murders from the beginning of this year," FFPlus North West leader Pieter Groenewald said in a statement.
A 49-year-old farmer and his wife were overpowered by about five armed men on a farm in Buffelshoek on Monday. The farmer was shot dead and his wife was beaten and tied up.
Groenewald said a recent government study found a farmer was three times more likely to be killed in a farm attack than a security guard in a cash-in-transit heist.
"We have been asking for a long time that farm murders, just like transit heists, be declared a priority crime."
He said the FFPlus would continue to raise the issue in Parliament.
