A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a child, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.
Xolani Mbatha was sentenced by the Ulundi Regional Court on Tuesday, for raping an eight-year-old girl repeatedly between July 2010 and March 2011, Colonel Jay Naicker said.
Mbatha was arrested in June 2011. He gave the girl one rand each time he raped her.
"Xolani threatened to harm the victim if she reported the violations, but the victim later did the right thing and reported the rape."
