Pretoria's name change is expected to top the agenda in mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa's state of the city address on Tuesday.

The mayor's speech was expected to reveal whether Pretoria would be retained as the name of the city and Tshwane used as the name of the municipality, the Pretoria News reported on Monday.

At the last council meeting, Ramokgopa said all political parties would be consulted in the discussions on these and other name changes.

He said new names chosen would include those who played prominent roles in the liberation struggle.

Ramokgopa was also expected to focus on housing, infrastructure development, the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit system and crime prevention.

On Tuesday there will be several road closures around the city hall.

Numerous public viewing areas have been set up across the city for residents to watch the speech.
