Robert Marawa makes it big at the Laureus World Sports Awards

Sports commentator and radio personality Robert Marawa recently attended the 18th the Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco and interviewed the likes of Sportsman of the Year winner Usain Bolt, Laureus Sportswoman of the Year winner Simone Biles and South Afrca’s Wayde van Niekerk.

“Interviewing the best in the world is an equivalent of getting an opportunity to peek into their world without prying. The humility of [Usain] Bolt and Simone Biles doesn't equate their achievements, you'd expect them to be more arrogant but they are not,” he said.

The 083Sports@6 anchor says his passion for sports cannot be measured with time.

“The passion began from the time my memory serves me in my appreciation of sport, it's pretty much timeless.” Robert goes on to say his vision for South African sport is for racial divides to be removed. “SA sports needs visionary leadership that is geared towards optimal performance as opposed to administrators using sport to optimise their pockets. Blacks can play cricket and rugby without needing favours.” The first Laureus World Sports Awards was held in Monte Carlo in 2000. It’s a prestigious ceremony to honour the remarkable achievements of sportsmen and –woman for the year.

Can't call it work....passion seems to make more sense. An extraordinary evening with sports elite. Mfundo #laureus17
